I am pleased to announce the sale of 232 Clarendon Street. The first transaction for this Back Bay building in 50 years. The last sale was on July 12th, 1973. This brownstone was built in 1871 as a single family home. Five levels with approximately 5600 square feet of beautiful original detail, grand foyer, high ceilings, original fireplaces & a patio.
A little building history…
For over a century the building has seen various owners, in both residential and commercial capacities. 232 Clarendon was acquired by William Lewis Hodgins, a noted residential interior designer. In October of 1973, he filed for (and subsequently received) permission to convert the property from one store and offices into one store, offices, and two apartments: one penthouse and one ground level.

Back Bay is an officially-recognized neighborhood of Boston, built on reclaimed land in the Charles River basin. Construction began in 1859, as the demand for luxury housing exceeded the availability in the city at the time. The area was fully built by around 1900. Today, it is still one of the most sough-after neighborhoods for Boston real estate. Collin Bray of Century 21 Cityside is a Real Estate expert in the Back Bay neighborhood.
